My own introduction to the author JRR Tolkien took place at the local library, a lad of around 10 at the time, browsing through the sci-fi/fantasy book category. A book with a black background with a symbol of an eye within a ring of gold caught my eye and titled "The Fellowship of the Ring". Little did I know at the time it was my first step into a magical world of weird and wonderful races, creatures and characters.

Since that first introduction (about 22 years ago) to "The Lord of the Rings" I have been a fan of Tolkien ever since. Especially on quiet long winter nights with nothing much on TV, delving into any of the author's books will whisk you away into another land and feeling the adventure come alive.

Beyond the books, the LOTR movies, audiobooks and the various computer games bring a new dimension to exploring the world of Middle-earth and its many characters, environments, history and races. Computer games range from some of the very early text based role playing games to the high tech modern online multi-player online role playing games.

Perhaps your own introduction to Tolkien was through the LOTR movies or games first. If you have never read any of the author's books I encourage you to lookup his many books, select one and have a read. The obvious choice to start with would be the trigology "The Lord of the Rings" although beginning with "The Hobbit" is a better way as it is where the story of the ring begins and leads into the rest of LOTR. Why not check out the lesser known books and stories like "Letters From Father Christmas ", "Tree and Leaf", "Roverandom" and various others.

Happy reading!
