One of the many ways to experience the various books written by JRR Tolkien is through listening to an audiobook adaptation. Below I have compiled 5 reasons why I enjoy listening to Tolkien audiobooks over other formats.

1. Modern technology means you can download an mp3 version of the book(s) to your specific device and take it with you while traveling. Small, light and easy to carry compared to large bulky books.

2. The audiobook adaptations are more inline with the original text book version compared with adaptations for the movies that often leave out various chapters.

3. You can sit back, relax and enjoy the story unfold through the magic of the actors, story-teller, music and sound effects that brings it to life.

4. Its a learning experience to hear some of the languages, words, songs and poems pronounced properly rather that struggle with guessing by yourself how they sound from reading the text.

5. Its a different format that is similar to listening to radio, gives your eyes a break from reading or being swamped by special video effects.

One place where you can discover a good range of JRR Tolkien audiobooks is from audible.co.uk for those in the UK, outside of the UK the main international site is audible.com- If your new to audiobooks and wondering how they work, check out the "About Audible" section of the site. One thing to checkout is a sample of the audiobook your intereted in, it provides a sneek listen to whats available.
